World Pup Fever: England’s Dog Breeds Take Centre Stage

The World Cup is in full swing – and while the world debates tactics, substitutions and extra time, we’re far more interested in something much more important: dogs.

This year, we’re celebrating England’s home-grown dog heroes, with a little shout-out to some international all-stars too. Because if there’s one thing that unites us more than football, it’s our love for dogs.

Team England: Home-Grown Dog Legends

If England picked a World Pup squad, it would be seriously strong, with some firm favourites making an appearance. Here are some of the home team’s star players.

  • Labrador Retriever – The Fan Favourite Forward

Friendly, bouncy and always chasing the ball (and the snacks), the Labrador is your classic centre-forward.

  • English Bulldog – The Sturdy Defender

The English Bulldog may not be the quickest on the pitch, but they’re absolutely rock solid at the back.

  • Border Collie – The Tactical Genius

If anyone’s reading the game, it’s the Border Collie as they’ll know where everyone is always.

  • Jack Russell Terrier – Super-Sub with Endless Energy

Small in size, massive in attitude, the Jack Russell is your game-changer off the bench.

  • Cocker Spaniel – The Joyful Winger

The Cocker Spaniel brings pure chaos and happiness down the flanks. Ears flying, tail wagging, absolutely no idea of the score. Oh, and they love mud, puddles and any pitch condition.

  • Yorkshire Terrier – The Tiny Captain

Don’t be fooled by the size – the Yorkshire Terrier absolutely believes they’re running the team. Big personality in a small package.

On the Bench for England: Honourable Mentions

No squad is complete without a few more home-grown heroes:

  • English Springer Spaniel – will cover every blade of grass, twice.
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier – muscular, loyal and full of heart.
  • Whippet – blistering pace when it’s time to sprint for the ball.

Calling Up Our Scottish Squad

While we’re flying the flag for England’s finest four‑legged fans, we couldn’t possibly forget our neighbours to the north. Scotland has its own superstar squad: the ever‑dapper Scottish Terrier, the cheeky West Highland White Terrier, the tirelessly talented Border Collie and the elegant Scottish Deerhound all deserve a place on the team sheet. Consider them our honorary call‑ups – ready to chase every loose ball, defend every biscuit and sing along to Flower of Scotland from the sofa.

International Call-Ups: World Cup Dog All-Stars

Even though we’re backing the English breeds, we can’t ignore a few global superstars – and a couple of Scottish scene‑stealers – who always deserve a place in the squad.

  • French Bulldog (France) – more into posing in the kit than running, but a style icon on and off the pitch.
  • German Shepherd (Germany) – calm, organised and brilliant at ‘defensive duties’ (especially guarding the snack table).
  • Shiba Inu (Japan) – clever, independent and always looks like they know something you don’t.
  • Brazilian Terrier (Brazil) – small, speedy and packed with flair – all about tricks, flicks and fun.

Wherever they’re from, every dog brings something special to the squad.

One Team, Many Tails

Whether you’re cheering for England or another nation, dogs make every match better – from half-time walks to full-time cuddles.

So, here’s to the Labradors in the garden, the Bulldogs on the sofa, the Collies organising everyone, and all the brilliant breeds from around the world watching along with us.

Different shirts, different flags, different breeds – but the same wagging tails.
