05 Jul Top tips on finding the purrr-fect cattery
Holiday season is in full swing and many of us cat owners are looking for the perfect cattery for our feline friend to stay in as we get away for a week or two.
Some of us may be lucky enough to have family or friends to help out, causing minimal disruption to your cat’s surroundings and routine. If that’s not the case and you need to find a ‘kitty hotel’ then we’ve got some top tips to share with things to look out for.
- The best places tend to book up fast so make sure you’re quick of the mark and don’t leave it too last minute. Remember personal recommendations from a trusted source is invaluable and may help you make your decision based on others good (or bad!) experiences.
- Make sure the cattery is licenced, and if in doubt, as to see the licence. It’s also good practice to note if they ask if vaccinations are all up to date so you can rest assured the other ‘tenants’ will be vaccinated also.
- Not all cats get along with other cats or animals so make sure they have their own space, separate from others that may be staying there. Even just the slighted bit of nose-to-nose, eye-to-eye or paw-to-paw contact can cause problems between cats.
- Make sure their area is secure, clean, well ventilated and temperature controlled with toys, scratching posts and places to rest available. Also make sure to check the food and water bowls are kept clean and tidy.
- Check with the cattery if you can provide your own food, cat litter and anything that will reassure them and remind them of home. A good cattery will usually ask lots of questions about your cat so make sure you feel they’re genuinely caring about your cat.
