The importance of pet insurance – a story about Dee Dee, the 4Paws Pet Insurance Dog.
When you set off for your daily walk with your faithful dog, you don’t really envisage finding yourself taking your beloved animal to the vets for life saving surgery. This is exactly what happened to 4Paws Pet Managing Director’s dog, Dee Dee.
Like thousands of times before, Dee Dee set off on her daily walk down their local country lane with the family. From nowhere a speeding truck hit and ran over Dee Dee resulting in a broken pelvis, dislocated hip, puncture wounds and severe bruising.
The van driver did not stop, but later confessed to not knowing he had driven over her.
Thankfully, a local farmer was on hand in his pickup truck and took Dee Dee to Vets4Pets in Harrogate who were able to stabilise her, administer painkillers and assess her damage.
Calder Vets pet hospital in Dewsbury were recommended as the best place to provide 24/7 care whilst Dee Dee was in intensive care.
Immediate medical intervention along with MRI scans, Xrays and ultrasounds were required in the early treatment of Dee Dee, which was vital in her recovery.
Having pet insurance enabled immediate treatment to Dee Dee without any delays or difficult decisions having to be made.
We are pleased to report that Dee Dee is making excellent progress in her recovery and is now walking with a harness whilst requiring plenty of bed rest (the tricky bit for an excitable dog!).
With over £11,000 in vet costs already incurred, you never know when you might need cover for your beloved pet.
