14 Aug International Dog Day 2023
International Dog Day takes place on the 26th of August
The day has been running since 2004 when animal-welfare advocate and pet-lifestyle expert, Colleen Paige, set it up.
It’s a day to enjoy your dog, should you own one, reward them with a long walk, an extra treat, a new toy or just some extra cuddles to show your appreciation.
Most importantly however, the day serves to acknowledge the huge number of dogs that are rescued and need rehoming as well as paying tribute to the pups who are able to provide support to their owners, allowing freedoms from disabilities, hearing and visual impairment.
The aim of the day is to encourage dog owners to pamper their pooch and, for those without a dog, to look into adopting a dog or sponsoring the many charities who rescue and try to rehome these dogs.
International Dog Day is a great way to show appreciation to our four-legged friends and to think about the costs, practicality and suitability of our own pet ownership.
Here are a few ways you can pamper your pooch on Sunday 26 August!
- A new bed – dogs spend almost 50% of their lives sleeping so a well made, supportive and comfy bed is a great investment!
- Tasty treats – need we say more? Who doesn’t love a tasty treat here and there. Read our blog about which fruits and vegetables they might enjoy too! https://4paws.co.uk/the-dos-and-donts-of-fruit-and-veg-for-your-dog/
- Toys – dogs have bounds of energy so a new toy to keep them entertained is sure to go down well.
- Grooming products – whether they love it, or hate it, dogs need regular grooming so why not update their products to keep them clean and preen.
The London Evening Standard has put together a useful guide of what’s on for you and your pooch this year on International Dog Day if you’re close to the capital!
