Be Prepared this Bonfire Night

Be Prepared this Bonfire Night

Pets and Fireworks

Autumn is well underway and we’re soon heading into bonfire and firework season.  Fireworks can be particularly distressing for your pets so we’re here with some top tips to keep them calm and safe as the bangs go off outside.

Top Tips for you and your pets this Bonfire Night

🐾 Plan your walks for during the day rather than in the evenings when fireworks are going off.  Make sure you give them plenty of attention and keep them close to you when you’re back inside.

🐾 Do your research and find out when and where bonfire and firework displays are due to begin and end in your local area.  Bonfire night falls on a Tuesday this year, but don’t rule out fireworks in the lead up! Also keep in mind that fireworks could be set off in residential areas, so ask your neighbours if they have any plans to do so.

🐾 If your pet usually lives outside, then consider bringing them in for the evening. Close the doors and windows and snuggle up. If you have a rabbit then consider extra bedding for them to burrow down in.

🐾 We often think of cats as being more fearless than other pets, but they can still get spooked by the loud bangs. Keep them entertained indoors with toys for distraction.

🐾 Another great way to calm their nerves is by tuning in to Classic FM’s ‘Pet Classics.’  A radio show dedicated to keeping your pets calm and happy during firework season!
