Pancake Day for your Pooch

Healthy and dog-friendly pancake recipes!

Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day, doesn’t have to be just for you and the human members of your family!

Get your dogs involved in the flipping action too!  Making pancakes with pet friendly ingredient is a great and safe way to get your pets joining in the pancake day party!

We’ve gathered together a few recipes from The Kennel Club

for you to choose from.  We’d love to hear how they went down with your pooch!

Don’t forget to make sure that these are given as an occasional treat as part of a balanced diet.  These recipes will not be suitable for any dogs with nut allergies or other dietary needs.

Recipe 1 – Peanut butter pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 100 grams of flour
  • 250ml water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 50g of blueberries or chopped strawberries

Topping:

  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 50g of blueberries or chopped strawberries.

Method:

  • Beat the eggs and add water, peanut butter and flour (you can add more flour if the batter is too firm)
  • Place the frying pan on a medium heat and cook each pancake until cooked (approx. 2 minutes on each side) – good luck with the pancake flip!
  • Wait until cooled down enough, top and serve.

Recipe 2 – Carrot pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 360g milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 carrots peeled and chopped
  • 250g of plain flour
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 30g butter

Topping:

  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 50g of blueberries or chopped strawberries.

Method:

  • Blend the milk, eggs, butter and carrots until the carrots are fully chopped and blended.
  • Add the dry ingredients and mix until everything is combined.
  • Heat a small amount of olive oil and cook each side for 2 minutes until the sides become golden.
  • Wait until cooled down, top and serve!

Recipe 3 – Oat pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 300g of blended oats
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 240g of milk
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Topping:

  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 50g of blueberries or chopped strawberries.

Method:

  • Add all the ingredients to a large mixing bowl and combine.
  • Heat a frying pan with the olive oil and cook for two minutes before flipping.
  • Spread the peanut butter topping on top of the pancake and decorate with fruits.  You could even try warming the peanut butter and drizzling it, rather than spreading.
